Upper Back Pain
Help put it behind you
Upper back pain occurs between the neck and lower back. The level of pain can range from a dull, constant ache to a sudden sharp stab.
Acute back pain comes on suddenly and usually lasts from a couple of days to a few weeks whilst chronic pain lasts more than twelve weeks.
Upper back pain is caused when ligaments or muscles attached to the bones in your back are injured. Pain can come from something as simple as twisting, bending, throwing and poor posture, especially whilst sitting at a computer. It is not unknown though to occur from vigorous coughing or sneezing or sleeping on a sagging mattress!
Symptoms may include pain in the upper back, muscle spasms, pain when taking a deep breath, moving your shoulders, bending your neck or when moving and walking.
